    New Mexico

    The Land of Enchantment

New Mexico joined the union in 1912 as the 47th state.  The capital is Santa Fe.
It is bordered by Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Utah.

The largest cities are Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho and Roswell.

New Mexico's agriculture includes cattle, chilies, hay and dairy products.  Its industry includes petroleum and coal products, printing and publishing, stone, glass and clay products and tourism.

    New Mexico's symbols are:
Flower is the yucca (its leaves can make rope, baskets and sandals)
                Tree is the pinon pine
                Animal is the black bear
                Bird is the roadrunner
    Fish is the cutthroat trout
Vegetable is the chili and the frijoli (bean)
    Gem is the turquoise
    Insect is the tarantula hawk
Question is "red or green?" referring to the two types of chilies.

    Didja know ….?

One of the oldest public buildings in the US is the Palace of Governors in Santa Fe. It was built in 1610.
One-quarter of New Mexico is forested.

Santa Fe is a center for artist of all types and is a wonderful place to wander and shop.  The countryside is colorful and peaceful.  It is easy to fall in love with the area.  Don't forget to check out the Lorretto Chapel's Miraculous Staircase.   Then there is the Carlsbad Caverns in the south as well as the mysteries of Roswell's UFO Museum.   There is plenty to do and see in New Mexico .
