    Utah

    Utah entered the union in 1896.  It was the 45th state to do so.  Today the capital is Salt Lake City.

    Utah’s nickname is the Beehive State

    The states that border Utah are Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Idaho and Nevada.  The largest cities in the state are Salt Lake City, West Lake City, Provo, Sandy and Orem.

    Agriculture in Utah includes dairy products, cattle, turkeys and hay.  The industries include mining, food processing, aerospace and tourism.

    Tree is the blue spruce
    Bird is the California gull
    Gem is topaz
    Animal is the Rocky Mountain elk
    Insect is the honeybee
    Fish is the Bonneville cutthroat trout

    • Utah is number 1 in literacy capability
    • The Great Salt Lake is 75 miles long and 35 miles wide.
    • Utah has thousands of miles of fishing streams and rivers as well as thousands of acres of lakes.
    • There is a huge variation in precipitation in Utah.  It varies from about four inches in the lower elevations to sixty and more in the mountains.

     

    Don’t miss ....

    • If you like to ski, Utah has wonderful dry snow pack and 15 ski resorts.  There the average snowfall is 500 inches.
    • Rainbow Bridge.  It is the largest natural arch in the world.
    • You can visit the place where the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads met.  It was in 1869 and is now Golden Spike National Historic Site.
    • Hole In The Rock near Moab was the home of a couple who literally built their home into a wall of rock.  Over 5,000 feet of home hidden inside the rock.
    • Monument Valley is a breathtaking area of shapes, colors and dramatic panoramas.
